Lamp Posts Installed at Grant Memorial

Eight bronze lamp posts were recently installed by the Architect of the Capitol on the marble pedestal of the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial in Washington, D.C. These posts are replicas of fixtures first designed and installed by Edward Pearce Casey, the architect for the memorial's pedestal.
The Cannon Building's Refreshed Rotunda

The Cannon Building rotunda has been returned to its original appearance when the building opened in 1908. This beautiful space now reflects the original intent of Superintendent of the Capitol Building and Grounds Elliott Woods and the architectural firm of Carrère and Hastings.
Harvesting Hope: Continuing Our Tradition of Helping Others

Building on the success of last year's War Garden project, an Architect of the Capitol (AOC) gardening team identified and, in some cases, created additional beds to grow vegetables on the U.S. Capitol campus. Crops harvested from AOC gardens will be donated to local food banks.

War Garden at the Library of Congress

To mark the centennial of America entering the Great War, the Architect of the Capitol recreated a War Garden as it would have been during World War I. These gardens, also referred to as Victory Gardens, were vegetable, fruit and herbs planted at private residences, public parks, school yards, etc.

The U.S. Capitol Grounds was recently named an accredited arboretum. The grounds are now listed in the Morton Register of Arboreta, a comprehensive list of arboreta and public gardens that have a substantial focus on woody plants for the benefit of the public, science and conservation.
