Phases 3 & 4
The First Street, SE (east) corridor of the Cannon House Office Building, part of Phase 3 of the Cannon Renewal Project, is now open for occupancy. This corridor offers a new accessible pedestrian entrance on the first floor located in the middle of the corridor for public and staff use. Additional access to the Cannon Building continues from the entrance on New Jersey Avenue, SE near Independence Avenue, SE and through the two tunnels connecting the Longworth Building.
With this opening, the C Street, SE entrance near the garage entrance is no longer open or accessible for pedestrian use as it is part of Phase 4 underway through 2024. The basement level along C Street, SE or south corridor is closed and no longer passable for pedestrian entry or exit for the Cannon House Office Building.
Automobile traffic on C Street, SE continues to be limited to two-way traffic from New Jersey Avenue, SE to the Cannon garage entrance and for the entrance to Lot 1. Traffic continues only as one-way east bound from the garage and Lot 1 toward the First Street, SE intersection. Please use caution exiting the Cannon garage and going eastbound on C Street. The barricade at First and C Street, SE is no longer open for entry for westbound C Street, SE Member and staff traffic during the 118th Congress. The New Jersey Ave, SE barricade is only open when Congress is in session. The barriers at Washington Ave, SE and Independence Ave, SE are open at all times.
Parking Lot 1
A portion of Lot 1 immediately south of the Cannon Building will be closed for the duration of the entire project. The Lot 1 site will house the contractor's construction offices and equipment.
