Why the AOC?
Across Capitol Hill, the architects, engineers and technicians of the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) design, enhance, and maintain new and historic structures, spaces and building systems. Employees in various trades such as electricians, plumbers, masons and carpenters maintain the facilities and infrastructure in optimal condition. Gardeners and grounds keepers create colorful displays and care for hundreds of acres of lawns and plantings.
Agency operations are guided and assisted by managerial and professional staff that performs planning, oversight and support functions. Our work requires the expertise of specialists in a wide range of disciplines, including strategic planning, budgeting, information technology, safety, and art and architectural history. Guides and Visitor Assistants at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center provide an exceptional experience for visitors to the nation's Capitol.
All of these efforts are directed at making the work of the Congress, the Supreme Court and Library of Congress – and the experience of the millions of visitors annually – as smooth, efficient and enjoyable as possible.

Student and Early Career Pathways
Summer Internship Program
The internship program is for current students. You may be eligible if you're currently enrolled in high school, college, trade school or another qualifying educational institution. This program offers paid opportunities to explore a federal career within the AOC while completing your education.
Cooperative Education Program
The AOC cooperative education program (co-op) provides qualified architecture and engineering students the opportunity to learn from and be mentored by dedicated AOC employees. Students have the unique opportunity to be exposed to public service and enhance their educational experience through a series of planned work assignments alternating with periods of related academic study.
Architect's Mobility Program (AMP)
The AMP affords an opportunity for candidates to be competitively selected and assigned to special trainee positions which will prepare them to permanently transition into positions in a technical, administrative or craft/trade field through on-the-job and formal training assignments. Selected candidates will progress in the career development position according to their abilities.
