Architect of the Capitol Attaches Final Ornament to the U.S. Capitol Dome

"The rosette attached this morning was one of the first removed at the start of the U.S. Capitol Dome Restoration project. Reattaching this ornament in its fully-restored form feels like coming full-circle on this project," said Ayers.

The Dome includes multiple decorative features often not seen from the ground. This impressive and detailed craftsmanship includes rosettes, acorns, grape clusters, flower petals and leaves.

Ayers joined members of the Capitol Dome Restoration team on the Boiler Plate Balustrade level to affix the last restored rosette. The restoration project is currently in its final phase. Over the course of the next several weeks, Architect of the Capitol will be putting the finishing details on the Capitol Dome. An architectural and historic public landmark, remaining work on the U.S. Capitol Dome includes final paint touch-ups and installing upgraded safety features along the tour route and in the interstitial area.

The restoration is scheduled to be complete by the 2017 Presidential Inauguration.
