Exhibition Hall to Close in March

A school group explores the 11-foot-tall touchable scale model of the U.S. Capitol dome in the Capitol Visitor Center's Exhibition Hall.
Wednesday, February 20, 2019

March 4, 2019, is the last day to visit Exhibition Hall in the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center before the space undergoes renovations.

Stop by soon to see:

  • The gavel George Washington used to lay the cornerstone of the Capitol more than 225 years ago;
  • The Lincoln Table, crafted from cast iron used to build the Capitol Dome and used for President Lincoln's second inauguration. You can see the picture of that inauguration with this table too;
  • A touchable, built-to-scale model of the Capitol Dome;
  • The Separation of Powers exhibit featuring the War Powers Resolution, President Ronald Reagan's nomination of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court, and the House resolution of impeachment of President Andrew Johnson.

During the renovation period, the Capitol Visitor Center will continue to offer a full calendar of tours and programs.
